City Leaders to Weigh Road Repairs

Upgrades to local road surfaces could cost upwards of $750,000 per year for the next three years.

At its next meeting, the Fredericksburg City Council will consider a resolution approving plans to repave 12 different sections of Fredericksburg's roadways over the next three years. The project would cost around $750,000 per year and would entail milling and paving some streets and the wholesale reconstruction of others.

According to information distributed to members of the City Council prior to next weeks regular council meeting, the Fredericksburg Public Works Department settled on the list of streets after surveying city roadways for deterioration.

"While we found that many of the streets in the City require some degree of rehabilitation, we concentrated on those streets in the worst condition and/or with high volumes of daily traffic," according to City Manager Beverly Cameron. "The proposed streets require attention to prevent any further deterioration and thus more costly rehabilitation."
