City Social Networks Abuzz For Love

With less than three hours left, Fredericksburg's River Front park is surging in votes, but is still considerably behind the leader, Allegheny Highlands' Humback Bridge.

There's a little under three hours left to vote for Fredericksburg in an online poll contest between a handful of Virginia parklands to win a giant statue spelling "LOVE". There are 21 city and county parks engaged in the contest, which closes today at 5 p.m.

If you're a local even remotely plugged into the downtown social networking scene, you may have noticed over the last day or so scads of businesses, government officials and individuals urging you to vote for Fredericksburg's riverfront park in the survey. Even Fredericksburg Patch has gotten in on the action, tweeting and re-tweeting the poll on a few occasions.

Despite a late surge, Fredericksburg's Riverfront Park only holds 6 percent of the votes, far behind the Allegheny Highlands' Humback Bridge, with a commanding 20 percent of the vote. Fredericksburg would need to overcome more than a 2,000 vote differential in the next two hours to win.

But it may be worth it to rally your friends to vote. The winning city will display the LOVE sign, pictured, to promote family vacations in Virginia.

The contest is being run by the Virginia Tourism Corporation. Be sure to vote early and often (it appears you can stuff this ballot box. Wink, wink, nudge nudge.)
