Floridians Choose Favorite State License Plate

Voting for four designs took place over a three-week period.

After three weeks of online voting for the new Florida license plate, the design with the solid green bars and the artistic orange forming the “O” in the word Florida is the most popular. A total of 50,124 votes were cast in the online contest.

The online poll represents one part of the process to select the new plate design. Before the design is manufactured, the public’s vote will be factored in with input from the governor, Cabinet and policy makers.

The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles needs to upgrade the basic Florida plate to a design that increases readability and features a seven-character configuration. A committee of more than 20 stakeholders, including state agency personnel, law enforcement, tax collectors and affiliated associations participated in the development of the final license plate designs.

Floridians had a chance to vote on four license plate designs. The other license plates received 13,616 votes, 14,875 votes and 6,192 votes.

I thought for sure it would be something closer to the govenors direction for our state. Like poor, sick people holding assault weapons. You know, something more inline with his values.

I really wish that more people voting for the plate design could visualize what this will actually look like on a car. I am pretty sure that this might have been an attractive choice among the four plates shown as viewed by themselves, but now picture that on a red car or a bronze one ... those green stripes are going to look awful next to a lot of colors.

My license plate frame will cover 85% of the color, but I've gotta say - that is one Fugly plate.

I wonder what this little exercise in government creativity is going to cost the taxpayers? Just because the politicos in Tallytown don't have enough on their plates, we are now subjected to a "News at 11" bit on license plate design. I vote Ugly and ill-timed for a government faced with a very tight budget. Oh well, the license plate frames will hide most of the ugly green stripes leaving the larger numbers a plus for better cop readability.
