Richard Friesner, chairman of the Fredericksburg Planning Commission, has announced his candidacy for Ward 3 representative on City Council.

Fredericksburg City Council is composed of a mayor and six council members.

The mayor and two council members are elected at-large. The remaining four council members are each elected to represent one of four wards.  All serve four-year, staggered terms, with elections held every two years in May.

The four ward seats will be elected in 2014.  They are currently held by:
  • Ward 1 - Vice Mayor Brad Ellis
  • Ward 2 - George Solley
  • Ward 3 - Fred Howe
  • Ward 4 - Bea Paolucci
The current terms of Mayor Mary Katherine Greenlaw and at-large representatives Matt Kelly and Kerry Devine run through June 30, 2016.

Friesner is currently serving his first term on the Planning Commission.  His term expires Oct. 31, 2014.
