How the City of Fredericksburg Voted

Democrats led in the polls in the City of Fredericksburg on Tuesday.  President Barack Obama received 62.33 percent of the votes to Mitt Romney's 35.52 percent, according to the State Board of Elections. 

Tim Kaine (D) and Adam Cook (D) also led in their respective races. 

Precinct-by-precinct results follow:

2012 Presidential Election

President Barack Obama carried the City with 62.33 percent of the 11,414 total votes cast,   Mitt Romney received 35.52 percent of the vote.  The three other candidates -- Virgil Goode (Con), Gary Johnson (Lib) and Jill Stein (Grn) received a combined total of 2 percent.  There were 18 (0.16 percent) write-in votes.

2012 Senate Election

George Allen received 35.26 percent of the City's vote, and Tim Kaine 64.42 percent, according to the Virginia State Board of Elections.  There were 0.32 percent write-in votes.  Total votes were 11,203.

2012 House Election

Rob Wittman received 39.69 percent of the City's vote, Adam Cook received 57.28 percent and Gail Parker received 2.82 percent.  There were 0.21 percent write-in votes.  Total votes cast in this race were 10,913, according to the State Board of Elections.

School Board Member, Ward 1

Elizabeth Rehm received 2,356 votes (97.23 percent), according to the State Board of Elections.  There were 67 write-in votes.  Rehm was running unopposed.

Two Proposed Virginia Constitutional Amendments

Question 1 passed in the City 67.16% yes to 32.84% no, according to the State Board of Elections.  Total votes cast were 10,536.

Question 2 passed in the City 80.40% yes to 19.60% no, according to the State Board of Elections.  There were 10,602 votes cast.

Update 9 p.m.

With all precincts reporting, the City of Fredericksburg has voted for President Barack Obama 62.33 percent to Mitt Romney's 32.52 percent. 

Update 8:40 p.m.

Rep. Rob Wittman, Republican incumbent for Virginia's 1st Congressional District, is leading in the early returns results, according to the Virginia State Board of Elections.  None of Fredericksburg's five precincts have yet reported.

Wittman has 107,169 (58.93 percent) of the 181,856 votes counted.  Adam Cook (D) has 70,181 (38.59 percent) and Gail Parker has 4,212 (2.32 percent).  There were 294 write-in votes (0.16 percent).

Update 7:40 p.m.

The Virginia State Board of Elections is delaying reporting of results until 8 p.m. because many voters are still in line at polling places.  "In consultation with officials from both the Republican and Democratic Party, the Virginia State Board of Elections has agreed to pause reporting until 8:00pm to ensure voters are not unduly influenced by preliminary results," said the SBE in a press release.

Original Post: Voters in the City of Fredericksburg go to the polls Tuesday to choose a president, senator, representative and school board member, and to vote on two Virginia Constitutional amendments.

President Barack Obama, a Democrat, is running for re-election against former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, the GOP nominee in the presidential race. There are several third-party candidates in the race for president, as well. 

Former Senator and Virginia Gov. George Allen is running against former Virginia Governor Tim Kaine in the race for the U.S. Senate. Allen, a Mount Vernon resident, was defeated by Jim Webb in the 2006 Senate race. Allen held the seat from 2000-2006.

Republican incumbent Rep. Rob Wittman, Democratic candidate Adam Cook and Independent candidate Gail Parker are competing for Virginia's First  Congressional District.

Elizabeth R. Rehm is running unopposed for the Ward 1 School Board seat.  She was appointed to that position in July 2012, after Pat Green won an at-large seat in the May election.

There are two proposed Virginia Constitutional Amendments on the ballot, one considering eminent domain law and the other about veto session delays.

The following precincts are located in the 22401 ZIP code.  There is one exception, according to the City's website.  If you live on River Road from 5321-5517 with zip code 22407, you are a City resident.  ZIP Codes 22402 or 22404 may or may not be in the City.  You have to use this ZIP code lookup to check.  Stafford county residents live in 22405 and -06; Spotsylvania County residents live in 22407 and -08, even if the address is Fredericksburg.
