Paul Ryan Campaigns in Fredericksburg

The Republican vice presidential candidate spoke at the Expo Center on Tuesday evening.

Rep. Paul Ryan greeted Fredericksburg with appreciation for the area's beauty and hunting. He's hunted here in the past.

"Paul Ryan is a friend of Fredericksburg," said Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-1).  "He is a hunter and he has been hunting with me," he said. "He understands what's important to you, to the state and to the nation."

Ryan's stop in Fredericksburg came after a morning campaigning in Lynchburg.

"As Virginia, so goes the nation," said Wittman. "The path to prosperity is first to balance the federal budget."

Virginia Senator Bryce Reeves said Paul Ryan and Mitt Romney have what it takes to improve the U.S. economy. "We are on a financial cliff, and it will take leaders with a moral compass to fix that," he said.

"Hope and change did not work," said Virginia Lieutenant Governor Bill Bolling. "We know Americans deserve better," he said, calling Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan "America's comeback team."

"The Obama economy agenda did not fail because it was stopped," said Ryan.  "It failed because it was passed [by Congress]," he said.

"In this country, if you work hard and you play by the rules you can get ahead," said Ryan.

"My husband and I have owned our own business for more than 30 years," said Donna Hart. She and her husband Don own Virginia Properties, Inc. in Spotsylvania. "We've never experienced the difficulties we have in the last four years," she said. She is supporting the Romney/Ryan ticket.

"One of the most difficult parts is the overregulation that creates barriers to businesses," she said. "It's just getting harder and harder."

Fredericksburg resident Tanya Githens has decided for Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan, she said, "because President Obama has not accomplished any of the promises he made in 2008."

"He's blamed everything on the Bush administration," she said. "Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan have a lot of ideas."

"I'll be hunting with my daughter next month after you've elected Mitt Romney as your president," said Ryan. "That's freedom," he said.
