Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) traffic alerts for August 25 - 31, 2013.

Stafford County

Route 1 Northbound

MondayThursday, 9 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. and Friday, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.; motorists will periodically be restricted to one lane on Route 1 northbound at the Aquia Creek bridge near the intersection with Telegraph Road. This is an intermittent lane closure for delivery of construction materials.

Route 218 (Butler Road)

(New) Tuesday, 7 p.m. – 5 a.m.; Crews will be moving utilities for the Falmouth Intersection Improvement Project. Westbound traffic on Butler Road will be reduced to a single lane in the vicinity of Carter Street.

Route 750 (Fleet Road)

(New) Monday, 9 a.m.; Construction crews will close Fleet Road to through traffic between Route 17 and Berea Church Road for one month. Dominion Virginia Power facility access will be maintained. Fleet Road is closing in connection with the widening of Route 17.

Spotsylvania County

Interstate 95 Northbound and Southbound

(New) Wednesday - Thursday, 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.; motorists will be restricted to two lanes on I-95 northbound and southbound from mile marker 117.3 to 117.5 for a bridge inspection near Exit 118/Thornburg.

Interstate 95 Northbound

Tuesday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.; motorists will be restricted to two lanes on I-95 northbound between mile marker 119 and 121 between Exit 118/Thornburg and Exit 126/Spotsylvania. Crews are repairing the pavement in the right travel lane.

Caroline County

Interstate 95 Northbound

Sunday–Thursday, 9 p.m. – 5:30 a.m.; the paving operation on I-95 northbound will continue this week between mile marker 108 and mile marker 110. This work zone is located between Exit 104/Route 207/Carmel Church and Exit 110/Route 639/Ladysmith.

To avoid delays, motorists may exit northbound I-95 at Exit 104 to access Route 1 as an alternate route. This paving operation will continue through mid-October.

Route 619

Monday-Wednesday, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.; motorists will be restricted to one lane on Route 619 between Route 207 (Rogers Clark Boulevard) and Route 1202 (Anderson Avenue). Crews will be paving in this area. Motorists should expect delays.

Under Construction

Stafford County

Route 1 Bridge over Aquia Creek

Crews are replacing the Route 1 bridge at Aquia Creek, located just south of Telegraph Road. Motorists should be alert to construction equipment entering and exiting the work zone and periodic lane closures. Estimated completion date is August 2015.

Falmouth Intersection (Route 1/Route 17/Route 218)

Utility relocation work is underway. Motorists should be prepared for brief delays and periodic lane closures on Route 1 just north and south of the Falmouth intersection. Construction work will begin in early 2014.

Caroline County

Route 600 (Frog Level Road)

Boot Swamp bridge replacement project is underway. Motorists will be restricted to one lane on the Route 600 bridge. Estimated completion date is summer 2014.

Traffic on Route 600 (Frog Level Road) in Caroline County will be shifted onto a temporary bridge at Boot Swamp starting the week of Monday, Aug. 26. Motorists should be alert for signs directing them to follow a new traffic pattern to cross the temporary bridge, which was built parallel to the existing bridge. Motorists may experience a rough driving surface on the bridge approaches, which will be a stone surface. In addition, the speed limit on Frog Level Road will be reduced to 25 mph in the work zone.
