If you haven’t yet registered to vote, the deadline is just a few days away.
Virginia officials have mailed more than 4.6 million voter registration cards to residents. The State Board of Elections is telling voters who have not received a voter registration card to check their registration record at www.SBE.Virginia.gov.
Nationwide, an estimated 6 million people didn’t vote in the 2008 elections because they either did not know how to register or because they missed the voter registration deadline.
The voter registration deadline in Virginia this year is Monday, Oct. 15.
The City of Fredericksburg website has information for those who need to register or have questions about whether their current voter registration is valid. If you have moved from the address on your voter registration card or changed your name, you need to re-register.
Here’s information on how residents can register in time for the Nov. 6 elections:
- Fill out a voter registration form in person at the City of Fredericksburg Office of Voter Registration and Elections, which has relocated to the 5th floor (Suite 500-A), The Executive Plaza, 601 Caroline Street. There is a telephone located in the main lobby to the right of the front door entrance. When the handset is lifted the telephone will ring directly into the Office of Voter Registration and Elections. The office hours are Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
- Download a voter registration form from the State Board of Elections website, fill it out and return it to Office of Voter Registration and Elections, 601 Caroline Street, Suite 500-A, Fredericksburg, Va. 22401. It must be postmarked by Oct. 15.
- You may also pick up a voter registration form at any public library and Department of Motor Vehicles offices.
If you aren't sure of the status of your voter registration, you can check it by going to the Virginia Board of Elections voter registration status service site.
Absentee voting is already underway. More information on how and where to vote absentee in Fredericksburg is available here.
