Coach Applebury Finalist For Coach of the Year

The Women's Basketball Coaches Association announced yesterday that UMW head coach Deena Applebury is a finalist for the Russell Athletic/WBCA Division III Coach of the Year.

Head Coach Deena Applebury's masterful job with the University of Mary Washington women's basketball team this season has been recognized by her peers with the announcement that she is a regional coach of the year for Division III. The recognition puts her in the running for national coach of the year for Division III.

The winner will be chosen on April 2 in Denver during the second annual WBCA Awards Show.

“The WBCA congratulates these coaches on being named finalists for this year's Division III Coach of the Year award,” said WBCA CEO Beth Bass. “Each coach was selected by their peers and is deserving of this honor for their terrific seasons."

Coach Applebury led the Lady Eagles to a 30-1 season, with a record-breaking 30 consecutive wins. The team lost in the Elite 8 of the NCAA Division III tournament to George Fox. The seventh-ranked Lady Eagles won their CAC division championship. This is the second time Applebury has been named a regional winner of coach of the year.
