JMHS Senior Offered VMI Football Scholarship

Jarmal Bevels says he will make an official visit to VMI in December.

Jarmal Bevels, a senior at James Monroe High School, has been offered a full football scholarship to Virginia Military Institute (VMI).

"I was called by the recruiter in my area and he wanted me to come down for an unofficial visit," Bevels told Fredericksburg Patch.  "The moment I stepped into the office, the head coach, receiver coach and area recruiter told me that they wanted to offer me a full scholarship to their program. It is a extreme milestone for me, because not many football players from JM go on to play at that level of football."

Bevels, at 6'4", 185 pounds, plays wide receiver/defensive back for the Yellow Jackets.  He's making an official visit to VMI in December, after the high school football season is completed. He's also waiting to see what other offers he receives before he makes his decision.

"I couldn't have done it without [Head] Coach Richard Serbay or Defensive Coordinator Coach Kenton Griffin," Bevels said.
