The incredible journey of the University of Mary Washington women's basketball team continues tonight as the Lady Eagles put their undefeated season on the line against a powerful Christian college out of Oregon that is also 30-0.
The Lady Eagles host George Fox at 7 p.m. in the Anderson Center after an exciting comeback Friday night led by the cool free-throw shooting of senior guard Jenna McRae. The Lady Eagles defeated the 17th ranked Lebanon Valley College Dutchmen 46-41 to win the third round game of the NCAA III tournament.
The Lady Eagles glided through the regular season, but they've had tough challenges in their last two games in the tournament and the team overall has not shot the ball well from the field. If it weren't for McRae's 80-percent free-throw shooting in the final three minutes, the seventh-ranked Lady Eagles very well could have been out of the tournament.
The George Fox Bruins have been a Division III powerhouse in women's basketball for the past four years and they reached their fourth-straight Elite 8 after overpowering Bowdoin College Polar Bears 71-55. Hannah Munger is one of George Fox's star players and she had a double-double Friday night with 18 points and 11 rebounds. The third-ranked team has reached the Elite 8 five times sine 2005.
The winner of tonight's game will advance to the Final Four on March 16-17 at Hope College’s DeVos Fieldhouse in Holland, Mich., which happens to be the same place the Lady Bruins won the National Championship in 2009.
