The Yellow Jackets beat Kettle Run in triple overtime.

The James Monroe Yellow Jackets beat the Kettle Run Cougars 37-30 in triple overtime Saturday afternoon at Maury Stadium in the Division 3 semifinals.

"This is the greatest playoff victory I've had," Coach Richard Serbay told Patch after the game.

The Yellow Jackets led 10-7 at the half, but fell behind 10-14 by the end of the third quarter.

At one point in the fourth quarter, the Yellow Jackets were losing 13-20.

With just two minutes left in the game, the Jackets tied the game 20-20.

"We were a little bit overmatched, and we did not play a good offensive game," Coach Serbay said after the game. But James Monroe won, he said, because of their heart.

James Monroe will play Brookville in the state championship on Saturday, Dec. 8, beginning at noon.  The game will be played at Liberty University in Lynchburg. It will be a rematch of last year's state championship, in which the Brookville Bees beat James Monroe 34-33.

Nice pics! And thanks for including some band shots - those kids also work hard at what they do.
