Super Bowl 2013: Baltimore Ravens Torrey Smith a Stafford Grad

High school quarterback is now a wide receiver against the 49ers for the NFL title Sunday.

Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith will play his first Super Bowl Sunday, and his former Stafford High School offensive line coach and defensive coordinator will be watching.

But Said Aziz, now head coach at Falls Church High School, doesn't think this is the Raven's year. “They [the 49ers] have a better defense and a more efficient run game,” Aziz told Patch Friday afternoon.

“I do want Torrey to have a good game,” Aziz said. Smith was Stafford's quarterback when Aziz coached there in 2005.  “He was a really good kid,” Aziz said.

Aziz said he only coached Smith during the 2005 season at Stafford, the NFL star’s senior year. That year, according to the Ravens’ website, Smith ran for 815 and 12 TDs on 155 carries and also completed 9 of 25 passes for 230 yards and two more touch downs. Smith caught 49 passes during the regular season for 855 yards and scored eight touchdowns.

Aziz said he and Smith text occasionally and he’s proud of his former player.
