UMW Basketball Coach Speaks To Student Newspaper About DUI Charge

UMW basketball head coach Ed Wood spoke to the University of Mary Washington student newspaper this week about his future with the college after he was arrested last week for DUI, reckless driving and refusing to submit to a blood or breath test.

University of Mary Washington head basketball coach Rod Wood will not be present at his team's playoff game today, he told the student newspaper The Bullet in an article posted Wednesday night.

Wood has been the coach for 15 years and has been recognized as the conference coach of the year four times. . Wood pulled into the parking lot of the 7-Eleven where he was eventually arrested for DUI, reckless driving and refusing to submit a blood or breath test.

Wood, 44, told The Bullet in his first public comments since the arrest that his administrative leave will be lifted on Friday, a day after his team's playoff game against Hood College. Wood missed the team's final game of the season, a loss to Wesley College by three points.
