Video: James Monroe State Semifinal Preview

A win by the Yellow Jackets football team would put them in the state championship for the second consecutive year.

The James Monroe Yellow Jackets face the Kettle Run Cougars at Maury Stadium on Saturday, in a Virginia High School League Division 3 Football Semifinal. Game time is 1 p.m., and admission is $10.

James Monroe is 11-1 for the season, according to the team's website. Their only loss was against Chancellor on Nov. 2.  The score was 17-20.

Coach Richard Serbay said the team's strengths going into Saturday's game are the players' quickness and togetherness.

Serbay told the "Nation's Best Sports Show" both teams are solid, and the game is going to be a toss-up.  "The difference is gonna be who makes less mistakes," he said.

The Yellow Jackets were Region 1 champions in 2011.  They missed the state title by one point (34-33) in a nail-biter against the Brookville Bees.

The Bees are also playing a 2012 semifinal game.  They take on the Tunstall Trojans at home.

A win by both James Monroe and Brookville on Saturday would mean a rematch of the 2011 state championship.

The 2012 Division 3 state championship will be played December 8 at Williams Stadium in Lynchburg.
