Virginia Riders to Compete at Rolex Three-Day
The four Virginians are among 27 U.S. athletes competing in the only annual Four Star Three-Day Event in the Western Hemisphere.
Four equestrians from Virginia will compete in the 2013 Rolex Three-Day Event this week in Lexington, Ky. They are:
- Jan Byyny from Purcellville
- William Coleman III from Gordonsville
- Lynn Symansky from Middleburg
- Emily Beshear from Somerset
Rolex, as it is often called, is the only annual Four Star Concours Complet Internationale (CCI****) in the Western Hemisphere.
The Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI) uses asterisks or "stars" on a scale of one to four to indicate the level of difficulty, according to the Rolex Kentucky website.

The four star CCI is the highest level of competition in the sport. It is only used for four annual competitions: Badminton and Burghley in England, Rolex Kentucky and Adelaide in Australia; and for the quadrennial World Championships and Olympic Games.
In three-day events, riders and their horses compete over three days in Dressage, Cross Country Jumping and Stadium Jumping.
