Thousands Without Power in Fredericksburg

Strong thunderstorms that rolled through Friday night causing major power outages.

If you had power Friday night, consider yourself lucky.

Shortly before midnight, Dominion Power was reporting 534,000 customers without power in Northern Virginia.

In Fredericksburg, 14,127 Dominion customers were without power just after midnight on Friday.

According to Dominion's interactive power outage map, pockets of Stafford-area neighborhoods along Interstate 95 were without power as well.

Nearby in Prince William County, 2,982 Dominion customers were without power Friday night.

Dominion tweeted "Crews are out restoring power as conditions allow, we will work thru tonight assessing damage as storms move out of the area."

Dominion customers can call to report an outage at 1-866-DOM-HELP (1-866-366-4357). Dominion may not know of your outage unless you report it.

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch until 1 a.m. Friday for the Interstate 95 corridor in Northern Virginia. NWS' forecast for Saturday calls for a chance of thunderstorms after 2 p.m.

We had some nasty weather here in the city, on the border of Spotsy county, the light flickered but we didn't lose power here although I was expecting it, guess we dodged a bullet here. When the temps get this hot, this fast turbulent weather isn't unexpected, at least it shouldn't be in this part of the world.

We were at the movies (Paragon 12) and lost power. Missed the end of the movie, but got home safely and had power there.
