Dogapalooza Coming To Fredericksburg

A mega-adoption event will be held June 7-10 at PetSmart in Central Park.

Dogapalooza organizers believe this year's event will break a national record of 587 adoptions in one weekend as they aim to adopt out 700 animals over four days.

Dogapalooza brings together 25 rescue groups and shelters from across the region to t at 1421 Carl D Silver Pwky. from June 7 to June 10. PetSmart Charities sponsors the event with Last Chance Animal Rescue out of Waldorf, MD.

“The only way we can achieve this goal is through the cooperative partnerships of community organizations,” said Cynthia Sharpley, director of Last Chance Animal Rescue. “I am delighted that groups as far south as Richmond and as far north as Baltimore are joining us. Shelters are overcrowded with animals of ages, and this event is a great way to involve the community and find homes for animals in need.”

Local high schools students, 4-H clubs and members of the military will volunteer to staff the event that is open to the public. Not only can pets get adopted, but there will be face painters, dog speed dating, a dunk tank and a kissing contest for dogs.
