Fredericksburg Arts Community Helps One of Its Own

Toast of the Town will help pay medical costs for Front Porch editor Rob Grogan.

The Fredericksburg community is rallying to help one of its own.  Front Porch Fredericksburg editor Rob Grogan is in treatment for the rare carcinoid cancer.  Friends and relatives have created the Rob's Army Facebook page and a number of fund raising initiatives to help pay medical costs of about $10,000 monthly not covered by insurance.

The biggest initiative is Toast of the Town, a September 22 event at Inn at the Olde Silk Mill in Fredericksburg.  The evening of food, beverage and music will feature a live auction and a silent auction.  Proceeds will go to pay Grogan's medical costs.

Auction items will include donated works by Fredericksburg artists including Betsy Glassie, Johnny Johnson, Brandon Newton, Bill Harris, Gabe Pons and others, local services for households and businesses, unusual gifts and travel bargains.

Music will be provided by Larry Hinkle's The Skiffle Lounge Sound.

"The response from the community at-large and from local mom and pop businesses has been remarkable," Grogan said. "My wife Virginia and I feel absolutely blessed and overwhelmed by it all, forever grateful to everyone."

Toast of the Town will be held 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, at Inn at the Olde Silk Mill, 1707 Princess Anne St., in Fredericksburg.  Tickets are $50 per couple, $30 single, and may be purchased online.
