Giant Food and Unilever Host Fredericksburg Stuff-A-Truck

September 20 Food Drive Occurs During Hunger Action Month

Giant Food of Landover, Md. invites residents to “Stuff-A-Truck” Friday at an event to help alleviate hunger in the Fredericksburg community. Fredericksburg Area Food Bank trucks will be parked from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. in the Giant parking lot at 5701 Plank Rd.

"More than 20,000 are at risk of going without meals in the region and rely on the Fredericksburg Area Food Bank for help," according to a Giant Food press release.

Giant and Unilever are working together again to “Stuff-A-Truck” full of food for Feeding America, the nation’s leading domestic hunger-relief charity, and its local member food banks during Hunger Action Month.

Fredericksburg Area Food Bank most requested items include peanut butter, canned meats, dry beans, shelf stable low-fat milk, pasta, pasta sauce, macaroni & cheese, canned fruits, canned vegetables, rice, low sugar dry cereal and oatmeal, whole grain pancake mix and 100 percent fruit juice.

The Fredericksburg Area Food Bank reported that in 2012 it provided 3.5 million pounds of food and grocery products to more than 70 partner agency pantries and meal programs helping to provide 2.8 million meals to the hungry of Planning District 16, including the City of Fredericksburg and the counties of Spotsylvania, Stafford, Caroline, King George and neighboring communities.
