King Left "Unfinished Business" For Leaders

Rev. Raymond Bell won the 2012 King Spirit Award on Monday during the Martin Luther King Jr. celebration at the Bragg Hill Family Life Center.

Rev. Raymond Bell was just a boy when Martin Luther King Jr. was dedicating his life to make the world a better place, but he remembers how this one man brought people together for one cause.

"It's unfinished business," Bell said Monday during the Martin Luther King Jr. celebration at the Bragg Hill Community Life Center.

Bell was the recipient of the 2012 King Spirit Award for his community service. More than 50 people attended the 90-minute event to celebrate King's life.

Bell said King's birthday is a time to celebrate and remember the sacrifices he made for the country. He said King taught him how to appreciate life to its fullest and how to work with others as a team to improve the community's quality of life.

"His birthday is a time to celebrate, but also a time to re-dedicate your life to serving humanity with whatever gifts and talents you have," he said, holding the crystal-clear King Spirit Award tight to his chest.

After Pastor James Arkord's opening prayer, Trinity Brown read the proclamation. Pamela Johnson presented a video of King's life and Dr. Joseph Henderson Sr. gave a spirited reflection that brought the crowd to its feet for a standing applause.
