Fredericksburg Community Concert Band to Honor JFK
The concert will also feature Chris Fens' favorites, in celebration of his 10th anniversary as conductor.
In his inaugural address on Jan. 20, 1961, newly elected President John F. Kennedy famously said, “My fellow Americans: Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.”
Meredith Willson, American composer, songwriter, conductor and playwright probably best known for "The Music Man," incorporated quotations from that speech into "Ask Not," a musical tribute to JFK.
The Fredericksburg Community Concert Band will perform "Ask Not" during their Saturday, Nov. 23, concert, to honor President Kennedy's memory for the 50th anniversary of his assassination. Former State Senator Edd Houck is the narrator.
The concert will also feature some of Chris Fens' favorites, in celebration of his 10th anniversary conducting the band.
Trumpet players are encouraged to bring their instrument and join playing "Trumpet Shout Out."
The concert begins at 7 p.m. at Massaponax High School, 8201 Jefferson Davis Hwy., in Fredericksburg. Admission is $5.
The Fredericksburg Community Concert Band offers volunteer musicians a professional environment to assemble and play for their mutual enjoyment, to provide cultural and educational enrichment for the community through public performances and promote further development of musical skills in students and musicians of all ages.
