Weekend Plans: Boats, Little Black Dresses, Horses, Blue's Clues and Empty Bowls

Five event picks in Fredericksburg for the weekend of Jan. 24 - 26, 2014.

Ninth Annual Fredericksburg Boat Show, Friday, Jan. 24, 1 - 8 p.m.; Saturday, Jan. 25, 10 a.m. - 7 p.m.; Sunday, Jan. 26, 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. at the Fredericksburg Expo and Conference Center.  Admission is $9 online, $8 at the door.  Senior (60+) $8. Children 12 and under, free. 

Little Black Dress Party, Friday, Jan. 24, 7 - 11 p.m. at the Old Silk Mill, 1707 Princess Anne St., Fredericksburg.  Tickets are $25 each and include a glass of wine, hor d'oeuvres and all night raffles.  For tickets and more information visit

Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Tournament of Champions, Saturday, Jan. 25, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. or later at Hazelwild Farm, 5325 Harrison Rd., Fredericksburg.  Hazelwild Farm, home to the University of Mary Washington Equestrian Team, will host some 20 East Coast college teams for the 2014 Tournament of Champions Winter Classic.  "This is a fabulous opportunity for college bound high school students to meet IHSA riding coaches," said Horse Talk Magazine.  Free for spectators. 
 
"Blue's Clues, Live! The Most Spectacular Place" opens Saturday, Jan. 25, at the Riverside Center, 95 Riverside Parkway, Fredericksburg. Lunch begins at 1 p.m. The performance begins at 3 p.m.   See the website for show times and ticket prices.  The show runs through March 14.

Fredericksburg Empty Bowl, Sunday, Jan. 26, 5 - 7:30 p.m. at Elks Lodge #875, 11309 Tidewater Trail, Fredericksburg.  Enjoy delicious soup, live music, and good company while raising money for Empower House, formerly Rappahannock Council for Domestic Violence.  Tickets are $50 and available at Liberty Town, Sophia Street Studios, Ten Thousand Villages and Empowerhouse.
