Historicon Invades Fredericksburg This Weekend

Little soldiers will be battling across big tables at the Fredericksburg Expo & Conference Center.

On Thursday, fans of miniature gaming took over the Fredericksburg Expo & Conference Center for the 4-day Historicon. The convention runs through Sunday.

Now in its 30th year, the convention is hosted by the Historical Miniature Gaming Society and features tons of gaming tables, seminars and tournaments, as well as miniature soldiers and settings for sale from vendors. This year's theme: Big Wars, Little Soldiers.

The convention hours are 8 a.m. to 1 a.m. Friday and Saturday, and until 5 p.m. on Sunday. One-day admission for non society members is $25 ($15 for military) on Friday and Saturday and $15 on Sunday. Kids 14 and under are admitted free.

“Think of it like a history-based, three-dimensional board game,” Historicon's Bob Giglio told The Free Lance-Stasr. “Unlike many collection-based hobbies, you don’t just set up your things and then leave it. With historical gaming you get to play and interact.”
