I am thrilled to see the recognition that was never given to those who served this country during the Vietnam War. I was born in Ft. Hood, Texas. Elvis Presley was there when my father was a young 2nd Lieutenant. Two weeks later we moved to Alaska. Dad was a …   more ›

Cicadas 2013: They're Everywhere! Or Are They?

Submit your photos as the Cicada's continue their visit.

Truth be told, I (Susan) have yet to see a single cicada.  So I asked on Facebook, and more than 80 people responded within hours that they were seeing them everywhere.  Reports came from Summerduck, Caroline, Beaverdam, Amissville, Massaponax, Timberlake, Cosner's Corner, Aquia Harbor, the FBI Academy in Quantico ...  They were noticeably present at the Univerisity of Mary Washington's outdoor graduation ceremonies, according to Pat Wilson.  Other readers commented: What about you?  Share your cicada photos with us by clicking on the 'upload' button above!  Some, like me, have seen ... none. Dionne Mackey: I've not seen any. I'm pretty disappointed. Lee's Parke. Courtney Hubbard: Have yet to see any in the city of Fredericksburg or in …

Family Diner, Peter Chang, Sunken Well Tavern, Ryan's and More

The most recent restaurants inspections in the Fredericksburg area.

Rappahannock Area Health District (RAHD) officials recently inspected food preparation and storage in Fredericksburg. Full reports can be accessed on the health department's website. A "critical violation" is one that "poses a direct or immediate threat to the safety of the food being served." "In our experience, it is unrealistic to expect that a complex, full-service food operation can routinely avoid any violations," according to Virginia Department of Health's website. The site continues: "Keep in mind that any inspection report is a 'snapshot' of the day and time of the inspection. On any given day, a restaurant could have fewer or more violations than noted in the report. An inspection conducted on any given day may not be …

GOP Nominee: Planned Parenthood 'More Lethal' than Ku Klux Klan

Chesapeake pastor and attorney E.W. Jackson is the Republican nominee for lieutenant governor of Virginia.

Pastor and attorney E.W. Jackson won the Republican nomination for lieutenant governor of Virginia over the weekend, and a YouTube video he made last year with strong words against Planned Parenthood is getting attention. Jackson, an African-American minister, lawyer and author from Chesapeake, posted the “message to black Christians” in September 2012, chiding African-Americans for their “slavish devotion” to the Democratic Party and saying that Planned Parenthood had been more lethal to black citizens than the Ku Klux Klan. "The Democrat Party has created an unholy alliance between certain so-called civil rights leaders and Planned Parenthood, which has killed unborn black babies by the tens of millions,” Jackson said in the video. “…
