A Nov. 26 public hearing launches 15-day comment period. Comments will be accepted through Dec. 11.
City of Fredericksburg and Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) representatives are seeking input on planned improvements to Fall Hill Avenue and Mary Washington Boulevard. The $45 million, two-mile project will: "The project has been in the city's transportation plan for a number of decades," said Doug Fawcett, Fredericksburg's Director of Public Works. He said Gov. McDonnell's 2010 transportation initiative provided funding to finally begin. "When the list of projects was released, there was $35.8 million for this project," Fawcett said. "Some other funding has subsequently been identified, and we are still working to close an approximately $2 million “gap” between available funds and the current project cost estimate." …

Meeting on Fall Hill Avenue, Mary Washington Boulevard projects moved to Nov. 26 because of Superstorm Sandy.
The public hearing on the Fall Hill Avenue widening and Mary Washington Boulevard extension has been rescheduled for 5 to 8 p.m. Nov. 26 at James Monroe High School. The meeting had been scheduled for Oct. 29, but was moved because of weather conditions during Superstorm Sandy. The hearing will consist of a short presentation at the top of each hour (same presentation each time), with the remainder of time dedicated to attendees viewing preliminary (30 percent) plans and other documents related to the project, according to the city. The materials will be displayed around the room, and citizens may comment on the plans and/or ask questions of the project engineers, city staff and VDOT representatives. The City of Fredericksburg and the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) are planning the widening of Fall Hill Avenue from the Rappahannock Canal west to Carl D. Silver Parkway, and the extension of Mary Washington Boulevard from its current terminus at the rear of the Mary Washington Hospital campus north to Fall Hill Avenue. A public hearing on this project is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 30, from 5 - 8 p.m. at Upper Lafayette Elementary School. Anyone is invited to attend any portion of the hearing.
