Fire Puts The Old Blantons Store Out of Business

A fire early this morning at 702 Princess Anne St. in downtown Fredericksburg shuts down a local business.

Updated 1:43 p.m.: Firefighters returned to the homes this afternoon after the fire rekindled. They remain at the scene. Updated 10:59 a.m.: Fredericksburg Deputy Fire Chief Mike Jones said fire marshals are still investigating the origin and cause of the fire. He said that crews responded to the home at 12:29 a.m. and found heavy fire on the first and second floors at the rear of the building. The fire spread to the home next door at 700 Princes Anne St. Both homes had to be overhauled. Fire companies from Stafford and Spotsylvania counties assisted city crews, who were on the scene for six hours. Jones said the fire was under control within 20 minutes. Lyn, the person who identified himself as the owner that day did so falsely. He was not the owner and he was smoking. The cause of the this fire was an electric heater, not a cigarette. The story was not trying to make a connection to the cigarette and the fire. Fire Erupts At Downtown Uninhabited Home

Fire officials said a fire at this house in November was suspicious.

A uninhabited home on Caroline Street caught fire tonight for the second time since November.  Fredericksburg fire officials said that the blaze in November at 1407 Caroline St. was suspicious, but no arrests or new information has been released since then. Fire officials have made no determination on the cause of this fire tonight. The fire started at about 8:15 and is under control, but fire fighters remain at the scene. The home has not had electricity for years. The fire appeared to start near the home's front door. The house was built in 1783 and is owned by Daniel and Madeline Mitchell. The house has often been decorated with war memorabilia, such as posters that were exposed through the front windows. The house structure is not …
