New Boutique Offers Hope for Hair Loss Sufferers

Chemotherapy, Trichotillomania, Alopecia Areata, thyroid gland; there are many reasons for hair loss or thinning, and now a compassionate business in Fredericksburg to help.

Denise Webster spent years hiding because of hair loss. Then came a life-changing experience, which motivated her and her daughter to open TrichWig Co., a Fredericksburg boutique dedicated to helping others. "My mom has suffered from Trichotillomania, a hair pulling disorder, for over 40 years," Heather Lease, Denise's daughter, said.  "She had tried every resource under the sun to no avail, until one day she got the courage to try a wig." The experience changed her life.  "It's helping me to heal," Denise said. Triple Stabbing at Fredericksburg Days Inn

Spotsylvania Sheriff's Office officials are still investigating Monday morning's altercation.

Three people were transported to Mary Washington Hospital Monday morning following an altercation at the Day's Inn Fredericksburg South, Lt. Troy J. Skebo of the Spotsylvania Sheriff's Office said. Sheriff's Office staff received an assault in progress call at about 9:18 a.m.  “Deputies arrived on scene within one minute to find multiple victims with stab wounds,” Skebo said.  Two victims were transported to Mary Washington Hospital with multiple stab wounds and one was transported with a head injury, he said.  All victims are reported stable with non life threating injuries. A fourth victim with stab wounds to his hand refused transport, Skebo said. Detectives are on scene investigating and interviewing witnesses.  Initial reports are …

Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center Announces New Board Members

The five new members replaced those whose term expired at the end of 2012.

Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center welcomed five new members to their Board of Trustees, Jeanne Burkett, medical center spokesperson, announced in a press release.  The new board members are: “We are proud to welcome these dynamic and enterprising community leaders to our Board," Tim Tobin, CEO of Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center, said. Police Seek Home Invasion, Robbery Information

The November 20 incident is still under investigation.

City of Fredericksburg police are seeking information in a Nov. 20 home invasion, robbery and assault. At about 9 p.m. police responded to Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center for a 20-year-old male who had severe injuries from an assault, said Natatia Bledsoe, Fredericksburg Police Department Public Information Officer, in a press release.  The victim reported he was home at Crestview Apartments with his 66-year-old father, when he answered a knock at the door.  As soon as he opened the door, three or four male subjects pushed their way into the residence. One of the subjects ordered the father to the floor and held him there at gunpoint. The two or three remaining offenders pushed the son into his bedroom and struck him repeatedly on the…

Spotsylvania Farmers' Market Gets Weekday Spot

There's a grand opening today at 3 p.m. for the Spotsylvania Farmers' Market new weekday location at the Spotsylvania Regional Medical center at 4600 Spotsylvania Parkway.

Those who enjoy fresh food in the Spotsylvania County area will now have a weekday option on Wednesdays to meet their local farmers and buy some of their food and produce. The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services is having a grand opening for the Spotsylvania Farmers’ Market newest location at the Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center today at 3 p.m. The market is located at 4600 Spotsylvania Parkway. The Spotsylvania Farmers' Market is in its 14th year, held on Saturdays at its Gordon Road commuter lot location. The hospital location will offer weekday market on each Wednesday until Sept. 26. Spotsy Regional Medical Center Campaigns For City Patients

Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center embarked on a mailing campaign to convince Fredericksburg residents to force change so that they can choose to which hospital they want an ambulance to deliver them.

Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center (SRMC) is playing hardball for Fredericksburg patients. The for-profit, HCA-owned hospital has sent thousands of mailers to Fredericksburg residents urging them to contact Fire Chief Edwin Allen to tell him that city EMS squads should give patients a choice to come to Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center. "You should have the right to choose," the flier states in bold blue letters at the top. But the big question is could such a change in policy potentially put city residents at risk? Fredericksburg Fire Department spokesman Mike Jones said the policy is to take city patients to the closest hospital and that is Mary Washington Hospital.
