UMW Basketball Coach Speaks To Student Newspaper About DUI Charge

UMW basketball head coach Ed Wood spoke to the University of Mary Washington student newspaper this week about his future with the college after he was arrested last week for DUI, reckless driving and refusing to submit to a blood or breath test.

University of Mary Washington head basketball coach Rod Wood will not be present at his team's playoff game today, he told the student newspaper The Bullet in an article posted Wednesday night. Wood has been the coach for 15 years and has been recognized as the conference coach of the year four times. Last Thursday, Wood was pulled over at about 1:30 a.m. in the 300 block of Amaret Street after the vehicle he was driving was clocked speeding on U.S. north, according to police. Wood pulled into the parking lot of the 7-Eleven where he was eventually arrested for DUI, reckless driving and refusing to submit a blood or breath test. UMW Men's Hoops Falls at Embry-Riddle, 85-75

Eagles fall to 8-4 on the season.

The University of Mary Washington men's basketball team dropped an 85-75 decision at Embry-Riddle University in Daytona Beach, Fla. The Eagles battled from behind to tie the score at 14 with 10:30 remaining in the first half, but ERAU used a 10-0 run over the next four minutes to lead 26-16 with six minutes remaining. A pair of three pointers from senior guard Ryan Farrar and another from sophomore Bradley Riester cut the deficit to as few as five, and UMW trailed by seven at halftime, 35-28. A three pointer from Farrar cut the deficit to two at 46-44 with 15:11 remaining, but a 7-0 run put ERAU ahead to stay.
