Be snow ready: Get where you need to be before the weather gets bad.

Virginia State Police remind motorists to get where they need to be before the weather gets bad.  Most fatalities during winter weather occur from auto accidents on icy roads and exposure to the elements, according to the state police. Police Identify Second Car of Alleged Attempted Murder Suspect

Laurence Alan Stewart II is being sought for attempted capital murder of local law enforcement officers.

The Virginia State Police issued an alert Thursday morning identifying a second car the suspect Laurence Alan Stewart II may be using. The car is identified as a 2000 White Nissan Altima sedan with Pennsylvania plates HLM-1923. At a press conference on Wednesday, Stafford County Sheriff Charles Jett said the suspect may be driving a red 2012 Hyundai Accent sedan with Virginia plates WXA-8249.  The suspect might interchange plates on the vehicles. Stewart is wanted in connection with three bombings in the area on Tuesday.  Law enforcement officials determined Stewart was allegedly targeting his former girlfriend and two Stafford law enforcement officers who had previously been involved in arrests of Stewart for indecent exposure, domestic …

Police: Incendiary Device Explodes in Normandy Ave. Home

Detectives and the Fire Marshal are investigating. Anyone with information is asked to contact the police.

The Fredericksburg Police and Fire Departments responded to a reported explosion inside a home in the 3100 block of Normandy Avenue at about 4 a.m. Tuesday, reported Natatia Bledsoe, Fredericksburg Police Department Public Information Officer. "The occupant of the home, an adult female, was not injured and evacuated the home safely, along with her dog," said Bledsoe. Fire personnel found smoke inside the home and damage to the interior of the single story residence, according to Bledose.  The investigation has determined that a homemade incendiary device was placed or thrown inside the home and subsequently detonated, according to police. Accident Closes I-95 North of Fredericksburg Wednesday Morning

Virginia State Police urge motorists to avoid the area this morning.

Update 7:45 a.m. - An updated statement from the Virginia State Police this morning explained "a 2006 Honda CRV was northbound in the left lane when it lost control and ran off the right side of I-95. The Honda then overcorrected and struck a northbound tractor-trailer in the center lane of I-95.  The impact caused the tractor-trailer to jackknife and block all three northbound lanes. Meanwhile, the Honda continued on and struck a guardrail before finally coming to rest on the right shoulder." All lanes are open at this time and delays are easing, but traffic is still very heavy along northbound I-95 just north of Fredericksburg.  Approximately 150 gallons of diesel fuel spilled in the accident, according to the Virginia Department of …

Sheriff's Office Introduces Crime Prevention Chevy

A seized and forfeited Chevy HHR is given a new life.

The Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office has a new crime prevention vehicle. A Chevrolet HHR, seized and forfeited after a successful drug investigation, has been wrapped -- completely or partially covering a vehicle with graphics -- and will now be used to promote citizen interaction with the Sheriff's Office. The Fraternal Order of the Eagles Lodge 4391 and the Spotsylvania County Crime Solvers assisted in financing the wrapping of the car.  ForAnything.com is the company which designed and wrapped the car for the Sheriff's Office. Fredericksburg Man Dies in Single-Car Crash

Phillip Oliver, 20, died at the scene of the crash.

A Fredericksburg man has died after he was ejected from his car from a crash, Virginia State Police (VSP) spokesperson Corinne Geller said in a news release. Geller said Phillip Oliver, 20, was not wearing a seatbelt and died at the scene of the crash, which occurred on Route 616, less than one mile south of Harwood Lane. VSP trooper M.E. Baker responded to the single-vehicle crash in Stafford County at 5 a.m. Saturday morning. "A 2000 Toyota Camry was southbound on Route 616 when it ran off the left side of the road as it came through a curve," said Geller in a release. "The car struck a ditch, struck several mailboxes, overturned and struck a utility pole." The cause of the crash is under investigation.

Rush Hour I-95 Crash Injures Three

The driver of a box truck was charged with reckless driving, state police said.

State Police Sgt. Les Tyler said driver fatigue appeared to be a factor in a rush hour crash Tuesday involving a box truck and a Toyota Prius on Interstate 95 about two miles north of the Centreport Parkway exit in Stafford County. The crash happened at about 5:04 p.m. in the southbound lanes. Tyler said a 2004 International box truck driven by John V. Diacatos, 50, from New Bern, NC, was traveling in the right lane when it changed lanes all the way to the left lane, where it struck a 2009 Toyota Prius. The truck then hit a guardrail and overturned. Diacatos was transported to Mary Washington Hospital. The husband and wife in the Prius, Harold A. Metheny, 69, and Carla Metheny, 61, of Spotsylvania County, were transported to Mary …

Woodford Man Hit By Car in Fredericksburg

State Police are investigating the crash.

A Woodford man remains at Mary Washington Hospital with serious injuries after he was hit by a car Saturday night near Hudgins Road on U.S. 1 north near the Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania County border. Virginia State Police Trooper L.L. Batten is investigating the crash and no charges have been filed, said State Police Sgt. Les Tyler. Tyler said the crash happened at about 11:53 p.m. about 1/10th of a mile north of Hudgins Road. A 53-year-old Fredericksburg man driving a 2008 Chevy Impala northbound on U.S. 1 hit Michael Lee Hare, 23, who was walking in the right line, Tyler said. UPDATED: One Man KiIled in I-95 Wreck at Fredericksburg Exit

The wreck was near the 131 mile marker in Fredericksburg.

UPDATE 4:24 p.m.: Virginia State Police Sgt. Les Tyler said today that Jermon R. Howard, 27, of Spotsylvania County died in last night's single-vehicle crash on I-95 near the Fall Hill Avenue overpass.  Howard was driving a 1995 Mercury Grand Marquis when he lost control and struck a guardrail on the right side of the interstate going south. Dyson R. Williams, 19, was a passenger in the car and he was taken to Mary Washington Hospital. His condition is not known. Tyler said neither men were wearing seat belts. Howard died at the scene. State Trooper J.F. Poling is investigating the crash.
