Customers are urged to be prepared with food and an emergency plan.
With a National Weather Service winter storm watch in place for the Fredericksburg area Thursday, personnel at Dominion Virginia Power, Rappahannock Electric Cooperative and the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) are in preparation mode. Le-Ha Anderson, a Dominion Power spokeswoman, said the company is making sure their trucks are ready to respond if there are any power outages. She said the utility company has a team of meteorologists tracking the storm. “Wet snow with some wind could cause some power outages,” Anderson said. “We urge our customers to be prepared with an emergency plan with phone numbers and nonperishable food, just in case there are some outages.” VDOT will have hundreds of trucks ready to roll Thursday morning…

Callers are demanding immediate payment, usually by prepaid debit card.
Dominion Virginia Power is warning customers of a scam where a person on the phone claims to be a company employee and demands immediate payment of a bill. The caller tells customers their electric service will be cut off if the bill isn't paid within a few hours and usually requests payment by prepaid debit card. The caller might falsely claim there's a problem with the customer's electric meter, which could lead to a fire if it isn't replaced immediately. They say Dominion will reimburse them later, if they pay for it right away. Dominion says while they do call customers who have delinquent bills to remind them their payment is due, they never ask for specific payment information. Instead they direct customers on how they can make …

Five days after a "super derecho" passed through the area, there are still pockets of homes without power. "I'm not dead yet," said one elderly resident on Belle Plains Road in Stafford County.
Jean Newton was sitting in her brown La-Z-Boy chair using an old newspaper to fan her face from the heat inside her home on Belle Plains Road in south Stafford that was still without power as of Thursday afternoon. Thankfully, power crews were at her house trying to restore her electricity. Her power was knocked out when a tree tore down the power line on this country road about 12 miles north of Fredericksburg on June 30 after a "super derecho" passed through. "I'm still living. I'm not dead yet," said the 82-year-old Newton. She said she is a diabetic with heart problems, isn't able to cook and she's partially deaf because of complications with her medications. She said it's been a frustrating week so far without power. "Who wouldn't be…
