Fredericksburg City Public Schools will be closed Thursday. Code Red for 12-month employees. Fredericksburg Parks & Recreation classes and tax assistance are cancelled March 7.  The Dorothy Hart Community Center is scheduled to be open. Fredericksburt Regional Transit (FRED) reports no a.m. or p.m. VRE feeder bus service (VF1 and VS1) or D6. All other routes will be starting two hours late on Thursday. Germanna Community College locations will open at noon Thursday. Hugh Mercer Elementary School family reading night March 7 has been postponed.  A new date will be determined. Schools, VRE, Metro Open Wednesday

The City's public schools will operate on a normal schedule.

Fredericksburg City Public Schools announced all locations will operate on a normal schedule Oct. 31. Also open on Wednesday are Germanna Community College and the University of Mary Washington. Virginia Railway Express (VRE) announced it will run a full service schedule Wednesday. Metrorail and Metrobus service have been restored. You may add other openings in the comments section below.

The Senate candidates' wives visited Fredericksburg on Wednesday.

Susan Allen, wife of Virginia's Republican Senate candidate George Allen, and Anne Holton, wife of Virginia's Democratic Senate candidate Tim Kaine, both campaigned in Fredericksburg on Oct. 10. Germanna Opens Central Park Corporate Offices

The community college held a ribbon cutting on October 2.

Germanna Community College opened its new Education Foundation and Marketing & Public Information office at Central Park Corporate Center on Tuesday.  The college leased 2,330 square feet at 1320 Central Park Boulevard within Central Park, a 2.5 million-square-foot power center located off I-95 on Route 3 in Fredericksburg. VIDEO: UMW and Germanna Sign Historic Agreement

The co-enrollment agreement allows an eligible GCC student to take up to five courses at the four-year university that will transfer back to his or her associate degree.

University of Mary Washington President Richard V. Hurley and Germanna Community College President David A. Sam today signed a historic agreement in Dodd Auditorium that will allow eligible community college students to co-enroll at the four-year university for transferable credits to an associate degree. Sam said the historic and innovative agreement takes the ongoing partnership between UMW and GCC to a new level. UMW and Germanna to Sign Co-Enrollment and Transfer Agreements

One agreement will make it easier for the community college's students to take courses at UMW that will transfer back to their associate degree program.

Those who attend Germanna Community College (GCC) will be able to coenroll at the University of Mary Washington after the two schools sign an agreement on July 25. GCC students will also be able to transfer easier to UMW's liberal studies program with a separate agreement that will be finalized next week. Morrison said the coenrollment agreement will allow eligible GCC students to take a limited number of courses at UMW while remaining enrolled at the community college. "Under the agreement, an eligible student may take up to five courses at UMW that will transfer back to the student’s associate degree program at Germanna," she said. The goal shouldn't be more college degrees, it should be a more educated citizenry. Somehow the bureaucrats have conflated the two and have decided that everyone should get a college degree (while excoriating college professors who are dealing with consistently lower standards of admissions).   more ›

James Monroe students and parents can attend a May 14 informational meeting about Germanna's new certification course for automotive technician.

Parents and students can attend an informational meeting at 6 p.m. on Monday, May 14 in the James Monroe High School Library for Germanna Community College's new Automotive Technician Career Studies Certification course. Juniors and seniors can register for the courses now.

Germanna To Have Office In Central Park

Dr. David Sam of Germanna Community College told City Council that they have the building rent free for three years.

Correction: The square footage of the building was incorrect in an earlier version of this story. Rappaport Companies is providing space for Germanna Community College's marketing/public relations staff and its foundation in Central Park. Germanna President Dr. David Sam said the move will take place this year at 1320 Central Park Boulevard across from Funland. He said Rappaport Companies will lease the space rent-free for three years. The space is about 2,330 square feet and about eight to 10 people will occupy the building. Sam said enrollment continues to trend upward, but they grew less this past year than it has been in the past.
