In Wake of Navy Yard Shooting: Nats Game Canceled, Heightened Security at Bases, VRE to Run as Scheduled

Effects of the Navy Yard shootings are being felt across the area.

Area Bases Increase Security

Regional Armed Forces officials have been keeping an eye on the situation, but have not made any drastic changes at bases in Virginia, Maryland and DC.

"We added personnel at the gate as a precautionary measure," said 1st Lt. Jean Scott Dodd, spokesperson at Marine Corps Base Quantico.  "There have been no threats and we are operating under code green, normal business," he said


VRE: Trains to Run as Scheduled


Virginia Railway Express (VRE) commuter trains will run as normal Monday afternoon, officials with the rail service announced.

"VRE is saddened by this senseless tragedy and our thoughts are with those families impacted today's events at the Navy Yard," officials said in an email to riders.

If anything should change, VRE employees will notify riders immediately, representatives said.


Nats Game Canceled

The Nationals - Braves game scheduled tonight in D.C. has been canceled, according to ESPN.
