Marine Goes Glam!

Recently, I reached out to our community asking for nominations for a deserving recipient of a glamorous makeover to be revealed at our High Maintenance Image & Fashion Consulting's Winter Wonder Glam Workshop, held at the beautiful Courtyard by Marriott in historic downtown Fredericksburg.  The response was overwhelming!  What girl doesn't want a makeover? There were many deserving entries, but ultimately my heart was swayed by one in particular, who was nominated by two of her friends.

Here is her story, as shared by her close friend, Carol Kellogg, CWO3, United States Marine Corps.

"Caroline Bier has always been the type of person to place others needs before her own.    She was a single mother to her beautiful daughter, Kyrsten, for many years.  She always ensured that her daughter received encouragement in all that she did, specifically Kyrsten’s love for soccer.   And through all of this, Caroline was an active-duty Marine officer, who served countless Marines.

Then, she allowed herself to be loved and she soon married her husband Jesse. Life was beautiful and blissful.  She had a successful career, a beautiful and intelligent daughter and a husband in her life.   Then, her family received disappointing news, her husband Jesse had been diagnosed with PTSD.

Most people would be devastated and distraught on where to go now.   Not Caroline. Once again, she set her needs aside and was determined to help her husband in his time of need.   She has been a huge advocate for spreading knowledge and programs that assist other families with knowing how to help their loved ones who have been diagnosed with PTSD.  Through it all she continued supporting and preparing her daughter for college, she, herself finishing college and then took the final step and retired from the Marine Corps after 20 successful years of service.

Being a soccer mom, an advocate for awareness of PTSD, and a Marine does not require you to dress glamorously. As a matter of fact, that is the last thing on your mind. So as many of you can relate, sometimes you wish you would be picked to be a winner of a night of pampering and feeli like the queen we all are inside and bring her to the surface." --Carol Kellogg

The head-to-toe makeover was a team effort and I'm deeply touched by all who were willing to participate and give back.  A very special thanks to Gia Ellis with Homecoming Trunk Shoes, who donated the beautiful red clutch to complete the evening ensemble, and Teddi Walker and her team at BobbyPins & Blush who provided gorgeous hair and makeup.  Her transformation was amazing, and it truly was my pleasure to be able to provide Caroline with an evening full of pampering and glamour.
