$50K Reward Donated to Help Solve Homicide

Samih Mustafa Sowan was found dead inside the basement apartment he was renting.

The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office is offering $50,000 for information leading to the arrest of the person or persons responsible for the 2011 homicide of Samih Mustafa Sowan.

On March 1, 2011, Stafford deputies responded at 7:53 p.m. to a report of a shooting at 35 Fife St.  An occupant of the house told deputies the man renting an apartment in his basement had been shot and was unresponsive.  "The resident of the house stated that he heard what he thought were gunshots coming from the basement," said Bill Kennedy, Stafford County Sheriff’s Office public information officer.  "When he went down to the basement, he found the victim on the floor."

Witnesses in the neighborhood reported seeing two males running from the apartment at the time of the shooting.  The suspects reportedly left the area by way of Courthouse Road in a 4-door, light colored, small or mid-size sedan.

Samih Mustafa Sowan was the owner of the Subway on Walpole Street in Stafford County.  "Mr. Sowan was known to frequent the Washington, D.C. and Baltimore City areas," Kennedy said. "We're hoping the $50,000 reward we just received from an anonymous donor will help motivate people who may have information that will help solve this ongoing investigation."

Anyone who may have information is asked the call the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office at 540-658-4400, Sgt. Chris Cameron at 540-658-4450, Stafford Crime Solvers (where callers may remain anonymous) at 540-659-2020 or TEXT “Stafford + your tip” to CRIMES (27463).
