Assault in Fredericksburg May Be Related to Jeffries, Wanted for Double Homicide Investigation

John Wesley Jeffries is to be considered ARMED AND DANGEROUS. Anyone who comes in contact with him should call 911 immediately.

Detectives are investigating the possibility that an assault in Fredericksburg at about 9:30 p.m. Saturday is possibly related to John Wesley Jeffries and, if so, Jeffries should have a laceration on his forehead, according to Natatia Bledsoe, Fredericksburg Police Department spokesperson.

Jeffries is considered a person of interest in a double homicide of an elderly couple Sunday near The Plains.

A 67-year-old resident in the 200 block Morningside Dr. reported Saturday night that he was taking trash out to his backyard when he saw a man in the yard and verbally confronted him.

"The unknown male pushed the victim back into the house, and the victim fought back by striking the unknown male in the head with his handheld oxygen machine," Bledsoe said.  That action caused the suspect to retreat further into the house and allowed the victim to leave and walk to a neighbor’s residence where he called 911.

The suspect was described as a white male in his 50s, approximately 5’8” and under 200 pounds, and wearing a dark blue or black sweatshirt and jeans. When police arrived and searched the victim’s home, the suspect had left the scene. It was later discovered that a quantity of cash was missing from the residence.

Double Homicide in The Plains

"Fauquier sheriff’s deputies discovered the bodies of Nelson (80) and Ethel Slack (74) in their house at 7282 Bunker Hill Road [in The Plains] at about 1:15 p.m. [Sunday]," sheriff’s Lt. James Hartman told Fauquier Now

When Mr. and Mrs. Slack failed to show-up for church Sunday morning, concerned congregation members asked the Sheriff's office to conduct a 'welfare check', according to Fauquier Now.

"Investigators found a vehicle 'known to be operated by Jeffries … approximately a half-mile mile from the homicide scene,'" Hartman said.

A car belonging to the Slack's was located by City of Fredericksburg Police in Fredericksburg on Sunday night, Bledsoe said.

John Wesley Jeffries is to be considered ARMED AND DANGEROUS, Bledsoe said. Anyone who comes in contact with Jeffries should call 911 immediately.
