Man's Body Pulled from River by Swimmers

The clothed body of a middle-aged man was discovered about 3 p.m. Wednesday in the Rappahannock River.

A couple swimming in the Rappahannock River near Old Mill Park Wednesday afternoon found a clothed body floating in the river.

"They grabbed the body and pulled it to a sandy area near the Fredericksburg side of the river, then called 9-1-1," Bill Kennedy, Stafford Sheriff's Office spokesperson, said.  This occurred at about 3 p.m.

The body was sent to the medical examiner's office in Richmond to determine the cause of death, Kennedy said.  The middle-aged man has been identified, but police are not releasing his name until next-of-kin have been notified.
