Multiple Assaults During Celebrate Virginia Concert

Celebrate Virginia, 2200 Gordon Shelton Blvd, 7/20 7:00 p.m. Police responded to the Spotsylvania Regional emergency department for a report of a male subject who had been assaulted at the concert.


A 32-year-old male reported that he was told to leave the venue and as he was walking out to the parking area, he was assaulted by three men. The victim described the assailants as security guards. A family member found the victim unconscious next to his vehicle and with multiple facial lacerations and she drove him to the hospital.

The victim could only describe one assailant as a white male with short blond hair, a goatee, and wearing jeans and a blue shirt with “STAFF” written on it.

The investigation is ongoing.

Celebrate Virginia, 2200 Gordon Shelton Blvd, 7/20 8:55 p.m. Police responded to a fight inside the concert venue and when the first arriving officer told one of the participants that he had to leave the event, the offender threw a beer in the officer’s face and struck her under the chin.

After a continuing struggle involving several additional officers, the offender Kelly Cox, 29, of Spotsylvania was arrested for assault on law enforcement and disorderly conduct. Cox was incarcerated at the Rappahannock Regional Jail under a $3000 bond.

A female, Nicole Burnett, 19, of Locust Grove was also arrested for disorderly conduct for her involvement in the original fight. Burnett was released by the officer on a summons.

While Cox was being escorted out of the venue to a patrol car, a man repeatedly approached the officers holding Cox in custody and refused to comply with their orders to maintain his distance. Joseph Lane, 28, of Spotsylvania was arrested for obstruction of justice and released by the officer on a summons.

Additional incidents related to the concert:

  • Jonathan Foster, 21, of Spotsylvania was arrested for disorderly conduct.
  • A Woodbridge resident reported that he was assaulted in the Sheetz parking lot by a man with whom he had an earlier argument at the concert. Both parties were advised how to obtain their own warrants.
  • A Spotsylvania resident reported that she was assaulted by a female who was pushing her way through the crowd near the stage. Both parties were advised how to obtain their own warrants.
  • A Milford resident reported that an unknown person stole tools from his truck.
  • Officers took two reports for lost or stolen wallets.
ASSAULT:
Brock’s, 503 Sophia St, 7/20 1:00 a.m. A patron reported that two unknown males assaulted him as he was leaving the business. One offender struck the victim in the face and caused him to fall to the sidewalk then both assailants continued to punch him as he was lying on the ground. The assailants were described as both white males; one had a mohawk haircut and the other had
shaggy red hair with sideburns. The investigation is ongoing.

LARCENY:
1400 block Littlepage St, 7/19 1:30 a.m. – 6:30 a.m. A resident reported that an unknown person stole his bicycle from the front porch. No suspects or witnesses at this time.

RACSB, 401 Bridgewater St, 7/17 – 7/19 1:20 p.m. An employee reported that a quantity of prescription medication was stolen from the facility. The investigation is ongoing.

2300 block Cowan Blvd, 6/20 – 7/17 4:00 p.m. A resident reported that a quantity of cash and household items were stolen from her apartment while she was away. The investigation is ongoing.

900 block Monument Ave, 7/18 – 7/20 10:45 a.m. A resident reported that an unknown person stole the lawn mower from her carport. No suspects or witnesses at this time.

1000 block Heritage Park, 7/19 – 7/20 2:00 a.m. A Spotsylvania resident reported that an unknown person stole a handgun from his unlocked vehicle. No suspects or witnesses at this time.

1400 block Stafford Ave, 7/18 – 7/20 5:00 p.m. A resident reported that a quantity of cash was stolen from her apartment. The investigation is ongoing.
100 block Wellington Lakes Dr, 7/20 5:00 p.m. – 7:45 p.m. A visitor reported that an unknown person stole the temporary license plates from his vehicle. No suspects or witnesses at this time.

VANDALISM:
1700 block Lafayette Blvd, 7/20 – 7/21 4:00 a.m. A resident reported that an unknown person slashed two of the tires on his vehicle. No suspects or witnesses at this time.

1000 block Heritage Park, 7/21 12:10 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. A resident reported that an unknown person scratched and damaged her vehicle. No suspects or witnesses at this time.
