Police: Woman Assaulted at Homeless Camp

Homeless man taken into custody Friday morning, according to Fredericksburg City Police.

A homeless man is charged with assaulting a woman who lived in a homeless camp near Interstate 95 and Plank Road, according to the Fredericksburg Police Department.

Steven Wayne Harley, 55, of no fixed address, is charged with felony malicious wounding and domestic assault and battery.

At 11:30 p.m. Thursday, officers responded to the Best Western Hotel in the 3000 block of Plank Road regarding an assault at the homeless camp in the cloverleaf area of I-95 and Plank Road.

"The female had bruises and lacerations on various locations over her body, including her head and arms," according to police spokesperson Natatia Bledsoe. The victim identified Harley as the assailant. Both reportedly live at the campsite.

Harley was taken into custody at 9:30 a.m. Friday at the campsite. He is being held without bond at Rappahannock Regional Jail.
