Police are investigating a Friday afternoon 'domestic violence shooting' at Fall Hill Apartments.

One man is dead and a woman is in serious condition following a shooting Friday afternoon at Fall Hill Apartments in Fredericksburg.

City of Fredericksburg Police responded just before 4 p.m. to reports of a shooting in the 1000 block of Wicklow Drive, said Natatia Bledsoe, police department public information officer.

Officers found an injured female inside an SUV in the parking lot; the female was suffering from at least one gunshot wound to the chest, Bledsoe said. The woman, a 22-year-old from Woodford, reported she had been shot by her ex-boyfriend inside his apartment before he then shot himself.

Despite her injuries, the woman was able to walk from the apartment back out to the SUV, where an adult family member was waiting along with the female’s two-year old child. The female’s family member called 911.

It is unknown at this time why the female was at her ex-boyfriend’s residence, Bledsoe said.
