FBI Announces Press Conference in Case of Missing Teen Alexis Tiara Murphy

A man has been charged with abduction, but no other details have been released.

A press conference is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Monday in the disappearance of 17-year-old Alexis Tiara Murphy.

According to WSET television, law enforcement are on the scene at a house on Country Lane in Nelson County this morning.  "Agents on scene ask media to not go any closer because it is an 'active crime scene'," WSET reported.

The FBI announced late Sunday that an individual was taken into custody and charged with abduction in Alexis' disappearance.  "For the continuing advancement of this sensitive investigation, no other information will be released at this time," FBI spokesperson Dee Rybiski said.

The name of the man who has been arrested is Randolph Taylor, WSET reported

Alexis was last seen at the Liberty gas station on Rt. 29 in Lovingston, Va., at about 7:15 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 3.  Her car was found in the parking lot of a Charlottesville movie theatre on Aug. 6

"This remains an on-going investigation and law enforcement continues to request the public’s assistance as they show pictures and conduct interviews and searches," Rybiski said.

The press conference will be held jointly by the Nelson County Commonwealth Attorney’s Office, the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office, the Virginia State Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.  It will be held at the fire station located at 53 Bakers Lane in Lovingston.
