When Will it Cool Off?

Residents found some heat relief in the Rappahannock River on Friday.

Heat index values in the Fredericksburg area reached as high as 107 degrees Friday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).  It may take until Sunday for an approaching cold front to bring any relief to the area.  There is only a 30 percent chance of precipitation Friday.

Saturday's 37th Annual Rappahannock River Raft Race will be held on a mostly sunny day, with a high near 95.  The NWS forecasts heat index values as high as 101.  There is a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 3 p.m.

The NWS predicts a mostly cloudy day Sunday, with a high near 89 -- a big relief compared with the heat dome we've endured the last week.  There is a 60 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms Sunday, mainly after 12 p.m.

Remember to take extra care of your pets in the heat.  Here are some tips.
