Fredericksburg's July 4th Heritage Festival

Celebrate the Fourth of July 2013 in Fredericksburg.

Fredericksburg will celebrate Independence Day with its 41st annual Heritage Festival.  They day's events are outlined below. 

7:45 a.m. Heritage Festival Five-Mile Run
Registration begins at 6:30 a.m. at the Fredericksburg Visitor Center, 706 Caroline St.

9:30 a.m. Heritage Day Parade

The parade consists of individuals and groups walking, riding bikes, pushing strollers, pulling wagons, marching, riding horses, etc.  There will also be a small contingent of Veterans' motorcycle groups, antique cars and rescue vehicles.  Awards will be presented for: Most Creative Bicycle, Most Creative Costume, Most Patriotic Entry and Best Showmanship.

There is no fee to participate, but advance registration is required.  Entry applications are available at Rappahannock River Raft Race and Heritage Day Parade. For more information, contact Karen Ann Wade at 540-659-6044 or karen@stafforddance.com. 

Parade participants meet in the VRE parking lot at 8:30 a.m.  The parade begins at 9:30, heading north on Caroline Street, turning left onto George, left onto Princess Anne and ending in staging area.  

10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Festival of the Streets, Craft Show and Antique Car Show

The downtown Fredericksburg street festival will include a classic vehicle display by Crusin for Heroes, children's activities, live music and food vendors.

10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Fabulous 4th at George Washington`s Ferry Farm
Interact with interpreters completing 18th-century tasks. Enjoy games, crafts music and food. See the complete schedule of activities

The cost of admission is $1 per person; children under age 2, free.

Free parking will be available at the Eagle's Lodge on Cold Spring Road, with frequent shuttles to Ferry Farm. Handicapped parking will be available at Ferry Farm.

11:30 a.m. The Rappahannock River Raft Race  - Postponed until July 20, due to hazardous river conditions

The 37th annual Rappahannock River Raft Race begins at 11:30 a.m. at Falmouth Waterfront Park, off River Road adjacent to the Falmouth Bridge in Stafford. 

Rafts will be judged by a panel of Jaycees, with prizes awarded for Most Patriotic, Huck Finn, Commercial Huck Finn, Fastest Down the River and We Didn't Think We Would Make It But. . .. 

The race ends about 4 p.m. at City Dock, 207 Sophia St., Fredericksburg.

Entry applications are available at Rappahannock River Raft Race and Heritage Day Parade.  Entry fees postmarked by July 1 are $25 for an individual, $35 for an organization and $50 for commercial.  Race day the fees are $35, $50 and $65.

4:30 p.m. July 4th Spectacular at John Lee Pratt Park

  • 4:30 p.m. Gates open.  Come early to get a good spot!
  • 5 - 8:30 p.m. Children’s Activities will include crafts beginning on the hour and field games (tug-or-war, 3-legged race, egg & spoon) will begin on the half hour.
  • 5:30 - 7 p.m. The Quantico Marine Corps Band and Patrick Ahern with Riverside Dinner Theater chorus members will perform music from Les Miserables.
  • 8 p.m. The University of Mary Washington Philharmonic performs a Pops Concert, with special guest Caressa Cameron, Miss America 2010.
  • 8:30 p.m. Gates to the park close.
  • 9:15 p.m. Fireworks! View the fireworks from Pratt Park or Old Mill Park on the Fredericksburg side of the Rappahannock River.
John Lee Pratt Park is located at 120 River Rd. in Falmouth.  Those attending the July 4th Spectacular are encouraged to arrive early.  Gates close at 8:30 p.m.; earlier if police determine the crowd is too large.  Alcoholic  beverages, sparklers and grills are not allowed. All dogs must be on a leash.
